Raccoon Macca-n-e (Native American name meaning "one who creates true magic," the name was chosen by Dr. D at VCA). Macca-n-e was found limping along in Big Bear; she had a fractured femur. As it turns out, the injury was not new. What a brave animal with a strong spirit she was to have survived all alone at only 8 weeks old with a fractured femur!   Dr. D performed the surgery while I ran anesthesia and Teresa was the surgical assistant. Macca-n-e recovered at the zoo and was fully healed and weaned within 3 weeks. She was strong and feisty! She is now at our satellite rehab where she will stay for a few more weeks until she is old enough to be released. It was great to work with the staff at VCA to give this little girl a chance at a healthy life.
